Compost Pile

There is quite a compost pile in the garden already, plus a manure pile by barn and pig pen thing. Our goal is to set up the compost so the dog, who loves to dig in and eat things out of the compost, can't get in. Thus we have found a use for the fencing we are removing from the pig pen. Pictured below is what it started as.

Our son loves digging in the dirt and garden. He was helping us move some of the dirt and fresher additions to the compost pile to another area so we can fence it in. After that is done we will be adding the older dirt under to the garden. We also still have a horse manure pile and a pig manure pile to add to this as well.

The plan was to set up some fencing to contain the compost. We ended up deciding to do 4 sections of compost. This way as it breaks down we move it to the next stage until the final one which should be perfect dirt! This took a lot of digging. We used the fencing that came from around were the pig pen used to be. Thankfully, this was a project that required no money!

After the partitions were measured out and placed. We used pallets for the doors to keep big animals, like our trouble seeking dog, out. This has worked so far. Now in a few day we will have to stir and move dirt around. All of the compost will come in handy for next year when we really set up the garden! I will likely make a post about what our plans start out as, and what actually happens. We all know that plans don't always work out, though the plan for the compost turned out better than we thought! Yay!

Talk to you all again soon!
