So many weeds....

Whoa, so many weeds. Our garden is full. First we had the heat that made gardening for long periods impossible (the weeds clearly loved it), then prepping for the house party. They just took over. On the positive side the house party was a lot of fun! It was quite hot that day too so I was glad we spent more time on the house. We ended up being inside for a lot of the afternoon to get out of the sun!

The days leading up to the party were filled with cleaning the house, pulling weeds in the drive way and around the fire pit. On Friday we were went to the old house to mow the lawn and drop the kids off with my in-laws! They came up for the party, so they watched the kids while we went home to get even more stuff done. This continued until Saturday morning. Then it was party time!! Everyone came out and stayed until just after 7pm. It was a very good day! After the party was over and everyone staying over night left it was time to get back to the everyday work.

The start of that was to get taming those weeds...

Like I said a lot of weeds. We may not like the heat but they sure do. I have spent at least a couple hours every day since Monday trying to clear areas. I have made some progress and it is so satisfying to see the dirt and plants freed.

Due to one of the weeds that is growing I had to bag the weeds that are pulled as it spreads like crazy. These areas pictured above had 6 big bags worth of weeds! Day three of pulling the weeds and still a lot to go.

I had also forgot, while living in town, the roulette I have to play when I am gardening. I have to cover up the right amount or I will regret it later. When I was a teenager I had allergy testing when I was being tested for asthma. Turns out though my asthma was mild, and I was getting ill often due to the many allergies. My biggest allergies and why I play roulette is weeds, animals and cockroaches. Now, the cockroaches part I haven't ever really had to worry about. If the weed juice touches my skin I get a hive rash where ever it touches, so much fun. Then there is my allergy to wasps. I love gardening though, so makes it worth the extra care. On the plus side I don't have to wear a lot of sunscreen since my skin is generally covered with clothes and gloves. I just wish I could find some gloves that are durable but don't mess with my dexterity. If any one has recommendations for gloves leave us a comment, or even clothes that are cool that also cover everything.

The little deck garden we started is looking great! The herbs are growing well! The clematis plants we have are also really growing and one is even in bloom! Here are some pictures!

Now the rest of the week will be more weeding, cleaning, playing with the kids! We also have a trip to the zoo planned! Talk to you all again soon.
