Spring is Sprung

It is officially spring today! It doesn't really look like spring yet, though the weather is warming up! We now have under a foot of snow in some places! Our projects are about the start ramping up so I will be trying to make sure I keep you up to date as we go with weekly blogs.

When we can actually see the rose bushes (which should be in the picture below) we will know that spring is truly here.

On to the projects.

Let's begin with the mushrooms! Not a lot has happened until this past week. We sprayed them three times a day religiously, and we woke up Friday morning to new growth! Since then they have grown bigger every day, if not doubled in size. Today alone they are bigger than they were this morning! The kids are really enjoying watching them grow. And on a side note it is nice to see them growing as our dogs have decided to start eating my indoor plants (currently down 3), and I miss the poor plants. Don't worry I have put the rest up out of their reach and the mushrooms are safe too! Forgive me, I have managed to get the pictures out of order and I hate fixing them... maybe one day I will be better at this blogging thing.

This picture is from this morning!

This picture is from Sunday!

This picture is from 10 minutes ago!

We really are very excited! I can't wait for the pink ones to arrive! We will be starting the tomatoes next weekend. Then everything else had to wait for the mounds of snow to disappear!

Next project getting worked on this week is a new fence! Why you may ask? We have a perfectly nice fence surrounding our entire yard and were planning on removing some of the fencing this summer. That would be an excellent question. It is because of these two knuckle heads...

They play very well together and are wearing each other out every day but have also decided that running away to a "neighbour's" house is a good idea. This neighbour lives a mile away down the highway near our house.... The "fence" we are having installed is a invisible dog fence that gets placed in ground and then communicates to their collars. The line is being laid this Thursday then they come back when the ground has thawed to trench it in, but we need it now. The dogs have been getting sneakier. We have closed our gates and stay out with them the whole time but they keep finding new ways out of the yard. We would like to be able to actually accomplish things while allowing them to run outside. If this works out we can let them stay outside on nice days and they have shelter in much of the yard. The line will also keep them out of the gardens and the horse fields, preventing the eating of horse poop! Yes that is actually something they do, they eat a lot of the horse poop. They also smell exactly how you would picture after. Yay, fence!

Speaking of animals! We have also ordered our new chicks! We will be receiving 25 little chicks on the Friday of May long weekend! It is going to be fun raising them from little chicks again! We still currently have 11! It went better than we expected. We only lost 2 then of course we sold 4. This will bring our total to 33 chickens if they all survive and the remaining 11 are smart enough to not wander as far as the one we lost in the late summer.

We have not accomplished anything else recently. The kids and I are ditching the husband for a few days later this week to go see my family to celebrate some birthdays! I will let you all know how the fence goes for the first few days (some will be my husbands report) and how the mushrooms are growing. Now the dogs want out and I need to go supervise them. I hope you all have a great week! Talk to you later!
